What we collect, and why

Short version: we hold your email address if you ask us to email you or you subscribe, and almost nothing else about you. No advertising, no tracking around the web, nothing sold to anyone.

Who we are

recited.co.uk is run by OPTA GROUP LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 08887435), registered office Gatcombe House, Copnor Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire, United Kingdom, PO3 5EJ. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Send us a message about anything on this page.

Business information we show

We publish which businesses ChatGPT and Google AI Mode recommend, using public business listings and the AI answers we collect. That's information about businesses rather than individuals — though for a sole trader the two can overlap. Public pages only name businesses AI actually recommends.

If you run a business and something about it is wrong, or you'd rather it wasn't shown, tell us and we'll sort it out.

If you ask us to email your results

We keep the email address you give us, so we can send your results when they're ready. We also keep a scrambled fingerprint of your IP address and your browser type, to spot automated abuse of the form — neither is used to identify you.

The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering a request you made. We delete these after 12 months, or sooner if you ask.

If you get in touch

Your message, name and email address are kept so we can reply and so there's a record of what was asked. We delete contact messages after 24 months.

If you subscribe

We keep your email address, the name and billing country and postcode you give Stripe, and details of the subscription — which business and town it covers, the plan, when it renews, and the questions you set. If you cancel and tell us why, we keep that too, to work out what to improve.

The lawful basis is performing our contract with you. We keep subscription records for seven years after a subscription ends, because tax law requires it.

Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or hold your card details. Stripe's privacy notice is at stripe.com/gb/privacy.

Who else processes it

The list is short on purpose:

  • Stripe — payments and subscription billing.
  • Hostinger — the provider of the data centre.
  • Cloudflare — serves the site and filters malicious traffic; Cloudflare R2 holds our encrypted backups.
  • Hostinger + ElasticEmail — sends and receives our email.

Where a provider is outside the UK or EEA, transfers rely on the UK's adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.

What we don't do

  • No advertising or tracking cookies, and no analytics that follow you elsewhere.
  • No selling or sharing of personal data with anyone for their own purposes.
  • No automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. Stripe sets its own on its checkout page, described in its notice above.

How long we keep things

  • Email addresses from result requests — 12 months.
  • Contact messages — 24 months.
  • Subscription and payment records — 7 years after the subscription ends.
  • AI answers — the full text for 30 days, the businesses named and websites cited for 90 days, and the summarised counts indefinitely, since they're what the percentages are made of.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or have it sent to you in a portable form, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Send us a message — we reply within a month, and there's no charge.

If you think we've got something wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we'd rather you gave us the chance to fix it first.

Changes

If we change this notice we'll update the date at the top, and tell subscribers by email if the change matters to them.
